If you have watched iron man, elysium movies or played call of duty, stalker video games, your idea of military exoskeletons probably consists of something BADASS that a soldier brings with him into battlefield. And you are 100% correct.
Wiki defination :A powered exoskeleton, also known as powered armor, exoframe, or exosuit, is a mobile machine consisting primarily of an outer framework (akin to an insect's exoskeleton) worn by a person, and powered by a system of motors or hydraulics that delivers at least part of the energy for limb movement.
A BIONIC EXO-SKELETON
While today's exoskeletons are still many years away from being able to operate in the battlefield however many countries are actively involved in research to field a working exo skeleton.
China's military researchers eg EEAE have debuted their own state of the art exoskeleton at Zhuhai 2014.
CHINESE KUNG-FU EXOSKELETON
Japan’s defense research organization has proposed allocating $7.5 million of its 2015 budget towards research into “highly mobile powered suits.”
The US is specially in the forefront. They have several projects underway, this includes the US army development of a web-patterned exosuit worn under a soldier’s uniform. The Navy has an exoskeleton project. Lockheed Martin has its own powered exoskeleton project for infantry troops, known as HULC.also the special Operations Command is gunning for an armored suit known as TALOS.

REQUIREMENTS OF A EXOSKELETON
For one, it should provide protection against ordinary and advanced rifle rounds.aka powered armour on the military side, powered armor has been of great interest for potential future infantry technologies. Ultimate goal is to be invulnerable to all sorts of gunfire.FYI an MIT team is currently developing liquid body armour – made from fluids that transmute into a solid when a magnetic field or electrical current is applied.
It should be able to lift and move more than 200 pounds at the minimum and simultaneously be able to do a continuous running pace and a dash pace for short-medium distances. In short allow a soldier to carry hundreds of pounds of gear for days, handle big heavy weapons like anti-tank missiles, and advanced sensors and communications that normally require two operators, and also be able to carry other wounded soldiers off the field on its back.
The helmet of the exoskeleton should be able to receive both vision and sound from 360 degrees and be able to digitally project it on to a screen and additionally collect and fuse information from all kinds of sensors inbuilt or external in real-time.These should also be equipped with sensors and Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers so that navigation and terrain negotiation becomes easier and provide improved 360° situational awareness.
